What Is Myopia?
Myopia (nearsightedness) means distant objects look blurry. It often begins in childhood and can progress quickly if not managed.
Major Risk Factors
-
Family history: One or both parents with myopia increases a child’s likelihood.
-
Near work & screens: Long, uninterrupted close work (reading/tablets/phones) adds strain.
-
Limited outdoor time: Less daylight exposure is linked with faster myopia onset and progression.
-
Early onset: The earlier myopia starts, the more it can progress over time.
-
Uncorrected or under-corrected vision: Squinting or sitting very close can be a sign your child needs an exam.
When to Consider Myopia Control
-
Your child is newly myopic or their prescription is changing frequently.
-
They squint, move close to the TV, or complain of distance blur.
-
Family history plus high screen time or little outdoor time.
Early evaluation allows us to slow progression—not just “get stronger glasses.”
What Parents Can Do at Home
-
Build in outdoor time: Aim for ~2 hours/day when possible.
-
20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes of near work, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
-
Healthy reading habits: Good lighting; book/device ~14–16 inches from eyes; sit up (no face-in-screen).
-
Sleep & posture: Consistent sleep and proper ergonomics reduce strain.
-
Annual eye exams (or sooner if changes): Don’t wait for school screenings.
How sleepSEE® Helps
sleepSEE® uses overnight orthokeratology: custom night lenses gently reshape the front of the eye while your child sleeps. In the morning, the lenses come out and they see clearly all day—no daytime contacts, no surgery.
As part of the sleepSEE Protocol™ (orthokeratology-led care + environment & habits + nutrition & preventive care), we provide a structured plan to help slow myopia progression.
Note: We do not use daytime soft lenses or low-dose atropine.
