Questions to ask

What to look for in an Ortho-K provider

Not every optometrist fits Ortho-K, and among those who do, experience and training vary widely.

Specific Ortho-K training or credentials.

Ask how often the doctor fits overnight lenses and what training supports that care.

A whole-picture approach.

Myopia progression isn't driven by a single factor. Family history, age of onset, sustained near work, and time spent outdoors are all discussed in the research as relevant. Providers differ in how much of that picture they address — some fit the lens and stop there; others build a plan that also considers visual habits and evaluates coexisting focusing or eye-teaming conditions on their own clinical merits. Ask: beyond the lens itself, what else will you assess, and what will you monitor over time?

A clear follow-up plan.

Ask what the doctor will measure, how often visits happen, and how changes will be explained to you.
